Ngarino Ellis is an art historian and Associate Professor at the University of Auckland. Her 2016 book A Whakapapa of Tradition. Iwirakau Carving: 1830-1930 won multiple awards. Forthcoming in 2024 is Toi Te Mana: A History of Indigenous Art from Aotearoa New Zealand, written with the late Professor Jonathan Mane-Wheoki and Professor Deidre Brown.
